Canada's Top Ten is a unique annual event, established in 2001 by TIFF to honour excellence in contemporary Canadian cinema.

Through its support of Canadian film, Canada's Top Ten is at the core of what TIFF represents. As we lead up to Bell Lightbox, a unique international destination for film, our goal is to continue to lead the world in building markets and audiences for Canadian work.

In the past ten years, it has grown into a highly anticipated initiative, bringing Canada’s most acclaimed filmmakers and eager audiences together for an exciting cinematic experience. The creativity, diversity, and innovation of these films and filmmakers keep audiences coming back for more. Last year’s Canada’s Top Ten selection included Ruba Nadda's Cairo Time, Xavier Dolan's J'ai tué ma mere, Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique, and Jamie Travis's The Armoire among others. In addition to the screenings of the Top Ten short and feature films, this nine-day event includes a lively panel discussion with special guest speakers and moderators. All screenings are restricted to individuals 18 years of age or older unless otherwise noted.

Canada’s Top Ten celebrates and promotes contemporary Canadian cinema and is intended to raise public awareness of Canadian achievements in film. A ten-member and a five-member national panel of filmmakers, programmers, journalists and industry professionals vote, respectively, on the best Canadian feature and short films of the year. Each film selected as part of Canada's Top Ten must have either premiered at a major Canadian film festival or had a commercial theatrical release in Canada within the calendar year. Canada’s Top Ten is published alphabetically and without any preferential order.
